The Lowry Centre for Advanced Training in Dance (CAT) has opened applications to be considered for its next annual scheme starting September 2020.
This acclaimed regional pre-vocational training scheme is open to young people from the North West aged 11 – 16 (once on the scheme dancers can stay until 18), with a passion and talent for dance. The scheme offers young people with exceptional potential, regardless of their personal circumstances, to benefit from world-class specialist training as part of a broad and balanced education. The training programme has a highly successful track record, with graduates progressing to study dance at major UK conservatories including: Rambert School of Ballet and Contemporary Dance, The London School of Contemporary Dance, Central School of Ballet, and the Northern School of Contemporary Dance.

David Pugh, the Olivier and Tony Award-winning producer, is delighted to present Emma Rice’s critically acclaimed musical adaptation of Enid Blyton’s Malory Towers, originally created with Wise Children. This new production by Wise Children will be co-produced with Theatre by the Lake, Keswick, where the production will open on 27 March 2020, before going on a national tour which includes The Lowry from Tue 21 - Sat 25 April 2020.

Following a hugely successful and busy 2019 programme, which included productions of Footloose, Shrek and Oliver!, Manchester Musical Youth return to the stage to kick off 2020 with the timeless classic ‘Calamity Jane’. This musical western based on the 1953 Warner Bros film starring Doris Day and Howard Keel features the iconic hit songs “Windy City”, Secret Love” and “The Deadwood Stage”. The production will be performed by their cast of 52 incredible young performers, representing all corners of Greater Manchester.

The Walt Disney Company UK today announced that Nick Afoa will be joining the touring production of THE LION KING which arrives at Manchester’s Palace Theatre from 22 October 2020. Afoa is currently starring in the role in London’s West End, where he has performed as Simba for three years after making his stage debut in the Australian production of THE LION KING in 2013.

International award-winning photographer Mandy Barker brings a major touring retrospective Our Plastic Ocean to Waterside in Sale, Trafford from 10 January 2020. Barker collects debris from shorelines across the world and transforms them into powerful and captivating images. At first glance, Barker’s images are reminiscent of sea creatures and corals suspended in a dark void beneath the sea, but closer inspection reveals a more disturbing reality.
